A day in the life of a River Hawk
Many of our players are currently attending high school/university
in their communities and others have either part or full time
employment. So it is basically go to school or work during the day
and Hockey Practice for local players on Monday Nights at the Fisher
River Arena Complex, we usually have 12 to 16 skaters out some are
our affiliate players. Tuesday Nights are set aside for dry land
training at the Peguis Central School from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. We
do strength and endurance training along with some fun floor hockey
to finish off the nights workout. Wednesday is our major practice
night where all team members are to be on the ice at 7:15 p.m. at
the Fisher River Arena Complex. The rest of our week is league games
on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday Nights!
General Philosophy:
Work Hard, Come Prepared, Stay Committed in all that we do as
Two Nations River Hawks. This holds true all members involved
with our Hockey Club: Executive, Manager, Coaching Staff and
Players. Education and preperation of players for a life after
hockey:We the (Team Executives, Management and Coaching Staff)
are huge supporters in our players working hard at their studies
both in High School and University. It is their education that
will provide them with the independence they will need to
succeed in life. Some players may choose not to continue their
education and work, while others will continue onto University
or College. We can only hope that our team philosophy will stay
with our players long after their Jr. B. Hockey Career is over
and that they will apply our philosophy into whatever road they
choose in life. Schedule & Travel:
We play a schedule of
approximately 60-65 games per season, this includes exhibition,
league and play-offs. The league schedule is set in September of
each season and in the last few seasons our league teams have
increased and it has brought a lot interest into the fan base
for Jr. B. Hockey. Travel ranges as far south to St. Malo and as
far north to Cross Lake & Norway House with every other league
team in the middle. All in all the schedule and travel can at
times be demanding, but all things work out in the end.
Equipment:We do supply the following: Sticks, Stick Tape, Sock
Tape and Visors. We also do a cost share with players wanting to
purchase hockey equipment, all purchases must first be approved
through the General Manager and Equipment Manager. Not all
player purchases are cost shared, some will be at the expense of
the player.
