Tansi!
Fisher River Cree Nation will welcome and
unite members of the Cree Nation from all across Canada and the
United States when they host this year’s National Cree Gathering
on August 5, 6, and 7th, 2011. The theme for this year’s
National Cree Gathering will be
Creator’s Laws to Indian people. The purpose of the
Cree Gathering is to affirm, share and preserve the culture,
traditional knowledge and language of the Cree people, the
largest First Nation in Canada.
The Gathering will include delegates such
as Elders, Spiritual Helpers, speakers, and most importantly,
youth. There will be workshops, plenary sessions, ceremonies,
storytelling and sharing circles led by Elders as well as daily
feasts and evening entertainment. A key element which starts off
the National Cree Gathering is the Unity Run where youth from
different Cree Communities will run from the previous hosting
site to the current hosting site.
The FRCN Chief and Council along with the
National Working Group have been moving ahead with the agenda;
finalizing infrastructure details of the site plan which will
involve camp areas, ceremonial sites, water, and shower
amenities just to name a few. Also, big congratulations to
Jeremy Neault who won the logo contest for this year’s National
Cree Gathering.
Volunteers are needed in different areas
of this event, if you would like to volunteer please, contact
Adrienne Cochrane at the band office (204) 645-2171.
