Self Employment

Self Employment is designed to assist unemployed Fisher River members to create jobs for themselves by starting a business.

FRHRP can assist you by providing coaching, ongoing technical advice and financial support as you develop and implement your business plan.

Coaching can be tailored to clients needs, such as business plan development, accounting, and marketing. Ongoing technical advice can range from mentoring to networking. Financial support can be base income support and other costs related to project as to overhead.

What is Self Employment?

Self-Employment is a labour market program delivered by FRHRP that can assist in the form of coaching, ongoing technical advice and financial support, as clients develop and implement their business plans. Ongoing technical advice can range from mentoring to networking, asssit to access capital/cashflow, use of computers, etc...

 

What is the objective of Self Employment?

The primary objective of the self-employment tool is to assist individuals to create employment for themselves through self-employment businesses, by providing them with various types of support during the period when they are starting up their businesses

 

Who is Eligible?

Fisher River Band Members registered under the Indian Act, and who are a resident of Manitoba,

  • Currently receiving Employment Insurance

  • have made an Employment Insurance claim within the past three years, or a maternity or parental claim within the past five years

  • have a viable business idea ; and be motivated to start their own business

What kind of Income Support is provided?

Income support provided is the Insurance Benefit (E.I.) while on claim and benefit period lasts, or a flat rate, FRHRP determined. Clients may also receive any of the other personal supports available to employment benefit clients, as appropriate



 

What other costs are covered?

Some of the eligible costs covered in the Community Based Training project are: wages, participant allowances, overhead - supplies, rent, travel, and any other related costs associated with the delivery of service, and approved by the FRHRP Management Board.

 

 

 

What is the duration of assistance?

Duration can vary from anywhere from 16 weeks to 52 weeks pending on the business plan
