About Us

It is the mission of our leadership to provide quality services and programs that are coordinated and responsive to the needs of our people. All services and programs will be aimed at making our community progressive and self sustaining, while recognizing that our treaty relationship is paramount.

Fisher River Cree Nation is a community in which our history, language, traditions, and culture are paramount to who we are as a people. We will protect and maintain the spirit and intent of the treaties and our inherent rights. Fisher River will be a self-sustaining progressive community with a strong and accountable government. We will provide an environment where all people are healthy, safe, and respected.

Chief & Council

The Chief and Council are elected representatives of band members.  They are responsible for local administration of community services for residents on band controlled land, including housing, roads, sanitation and welfare.  The council is also responsible for the interests of band membership with regard to matters affecting Aboriginal Rights, Treaty Rights, band capital and revenue funds in trust.  They may also deal with matters involving non-band members with respect to business and industrial interests, such as the regulation of land leases, royalties, lumber and tourism.

 

Band government consists of a Chief and four Councillors.  The band officials officially serve a two year term.  The current Chief and Council are:

Chief DAvid Crate

sample imageDavid Crate was first elected to council in 1985.  He became Chief in 1989 and has continued, except for 3 terms.  Throughout his 21 year career, he has focused on long-term planning and development.
